Nina & Lamar invited their friends and family over for what everyone thought was just a simple engagement party at their home in Lasalle. But instead of popping champagne to celebrate their engagement… they surprised everyone with a wedding! Yes. An actual wedding. They had one of their friends officiate the ceremony in their backyard, surrounded by their closest friends and family, and turned an already special gathering into one of the most intimate, joyful, and meaningful wedding days I’ve ever photographed.
Their wedding took place on August 22nd, 2025, one of those hot, sunny summer days where everything just feels easy and light. No formal venue, no rigid timeline, no big production. Just their home, their people, and a backyard filled with love. The overall vibe was casual but intentional. Simple white decor, white hydrangeas, touches of burgundy, and a setup that felt beautiful without trying too hard. Proof (once again) that you really don’t need much to create something magical.
Before the party, we did their couple session in the Old Port of Montreal, and it was such a dream. Lamar’s dad lent them his vintage car, which added so much character to the photos and fit the vibe perfectly. It was early afternoon, bright and sunny, but the Old Port buildings gave us tons of natural shade, so the lighting was basically perfect everywhere we went. No golden hour this time, but honestly, the session was so good we didn’t even need it. And the best part? They had never been professionally photographed before. You would never guess. They were complete naturals, so comfortable with each other, and their connection just radiated through every frame.
Nina wore a simple white dress that fit the day perfectly, elegant, effortless, and timeless. Lamar went for black pants and a resort-style white knit shirt, casual but still polished. Together, their looks matched the whole spirit of the day: relaxed, stylish, and very them.
Of course, I was in on the secret. But watching their guests slowly realize what was happening was everything. The reactions, the shock, the happy tears, it was such a genuine, emotional moment. Seeing everyone go from “oh this is a nice engagement party” to “WAIT… ARE YOU GETTING MARRIED RIGHT NOW?!” was honestly incredible. The ceremony itself was simple, heartfelt, and full of emotion, one of those moments that feels real in the purest way.
Nina & Lamar’s wedding wasn’t about tradition, expectations, or doing things “the right way”. It was about love, intimacy, and creating a moment that truly reflected who they are.
Perfect is honestly the only word that fits. Intimate, casual, fun, beautiful, the kind of day that reminds you why you photograph weddings in the first place.
If you're thinking of having an intimate celebration instead of a BIG wedding, I'd LOVE to photograph your special day!
